Donnie Ray Holderfield, 62 of Hollywood, born on Wednesday, February 22, 1961 to Frank and Mary Holderfield, received eternal healing on Monday, April 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with burial following in Burgess Cemetery.
In his youth, Donnie could be found keeping the Long Hallow neighborhood on their toes with his brothers, with nothing more, he would assure you, than a friendly game of football. He was a member of Scottsboro High’s Class of 1980, playing center for the Wildcats. He spent his professional life surrounded by cars, repairing them or towing them. Even when no longer physically able to help, he could be counted on to walk through repairing any blinking light or strange noise.
In 1979 when he first met Julie, he said he would marry her. Donnie always did exactly what he said, and they did marry in 1987. Throughout 44 years together, they shared countless adventures, good and bad, and navigated them together. Their greatest adventure was raising their three children. From the moment he became a father, he beamed with pride and would tell anyone who would listen about his children’s accomplishments.
Two constants in his life were his love of the Crimson Tide and his ability to make someone laugh. It didn’t matter what sport it was; if Alabama was playing, he was watching and screaming, “Roll Tide!” If you needed to laugh, you could count on Donnie to make that happen. His comedic timing and storytelling were unparalleled. The only thing that outshined his love of the Tide was being Cheech to his grandsons. Nothing in this world brought him more joy than them.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Cranessa (James) Bailey, Andrew Holderfield, Michael Sennett, Sabrina (Josh) Davison; grandchildren, Holder and Shepherd Bailey; sisters, Patricia Doss, Gwen Roberts, Christine Lees; brothers, Charles (Judy) Holderfield, Michael (Sherry) Holderfield; special friends, Randall and Gayle Cook; a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ann Bates, Mary Murphy; brothers, Haril and Frankie Holderfield; grandchild, Nayeli Davison.
