Martha Gamble Willmon, 85 of Scottsboro, born on Sunday, December 19, 1937, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services were held on Friday, march 10, 2023 at Rainsville Holiness Church with Bro. Ollie Taylor officiating. Private family graveside services were held at Gunter Mountain Memory Gardens.
Martha was married to Charles at an early age and began a ministry that would last over 60 years. This ministry began at Oak Grove Holiness Church, and they also started new churches in Fyffe and Rainsville, where they eventually retired. She was a talented artist, winning several awards for her paintings, while also teaching a new generation of artists this craft. She has many accomplished students who continue this craft today. She also loved to write and wrote her autobiography among other books, including a children’s book. Martha and Charles enjoyed traveling and were afforded the opportunity to do so for 50 years. After the loss of Charles, Martha created a new chapter in her life at Fleming Farms where she was active in painting and other activities while making new friends. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, attending church, painting, teaching and writing.
Martha lived a full, wonderful life with many interests. Her entire family and host of friends will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her sons, Benji (Terry) Willmon, Nixon (Karen) Willmon, Jeff (Cindy) Mefford; grandchildren, Bradley, Aaron, Julie, Anna, Isaac, Luke Willmon, Emily and Eli Mefford; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Frances (Phillip) Winn; brother, Jimmy (Beverly) Gamble.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Willmon; son, Anthony Willmon; parents, Claude and Erma Gamble; brothers, Billy Gamble, Gene Gamble; sisters, Bobbie Majors, Joyce McGill.
