Carl W. Phillips, 79, born on Friday, June 11, 1943 to James and Pearl Phillips in Olympia, Washington, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Scottsboro Funeral Home with a full military honors burial following at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
He attended Olympia High School. At the age of five, Carl knew he wanted to join the United States Navy and did so in 1961, serving several tours in Vietnam. During the 22 years of his service, he was on the USS Coral Sea, USS Anchorage, USS King and USS New Orleans. Upon his retirement, he attended Centralia Community College and joined Boeing BCSS in Seattle in 1985, working as a communications engineer. In 1986 he was transferred to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1988, he was transferred to Huntsville, where he continued working until his 2007 retirement.
Carl was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling. He was also a collector of baseball cards, coins and a Corvette enthusiast, owning several over the years.
He was a loving husband and leaves behind his wife, Joyce Phillips; granddaughters, Katrina Lancaster, Erica Lancaster; grandsons, Brian Lancaster, Noah Phillips; great-grandchildren, Angelina, Analisa, Elaena, Nathaniel, Emilia; sisters-in-law, Bev Phillips, Jeanne McKenty; brother-in-law, Wm (Terri) Glass; 18 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews; beloved bird, Mickey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pearl Phillips; in-laws, LTC (ret.) and Harley Glass; brother, Dr. Raymond Phillips; LTC (ret.) Samuel McKenty.
