Mr. Albert “Bert” Couch Boykin, Sr., 90 of Scottsboro, born on Friday, March 18, 1932, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Scottsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brian Tanck officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Bert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated from Jackson County High in 1950 and was a Korean War veteran, fighting at the age of 18 with Company B. He attended the University of Alabama where he met the love of his life, Leah. Bert later founded Boykin Tractor Co. Inc. in 1958, visiting the premises daily until his death. He was also a Sunday school teacher and elder at Scottsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Bert drew great pleasure from being outside on his cattle farms. He was an accomplished businessman, master storyteller and adored by everyone who knew him. He will be remembered as a faithful man of God.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Leah Boykin; son, Albert (Lucy) Boykin, Jr.; grandchildren, James (Kaitlin) Merwin, IV, Andrew (Carly) Merwin, Albert (Lauren) Boykin, III, John (Savannah) Boykin; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Boykin, William Boykin, Julie Merwin, Jackson Boykin, John Boykin; brothers, Perry Boykin, Paul Boykin; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Sarah Boykin; brother, Luke Boykin, Jr.; daughter, Julie Merwin.
