Mr. Roger Smith, Sr., 79 of the Baker’s Mountain area, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022. Funeral services with military honors were held on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Grant Memorial Chapel with Tony Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed at Free Home Cemetery.

Roger was born on Thursday, April 15, 1943 in Ontario, Canada to Forrest and Rebecca Smith. He joined the United States Army, serving for 21 years and retiring as an E7. After his discharge from the Armed Forces, he worked for many years driving a truck for Kennamer Brothers Truckers. Many remember Roger for his time in owning and operating The Squirrel’s Nest with his wife, Doris.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Bobby) Jones, Carmen (Perry) Guffey; grandchildren, Stacey (Ray) Wilson, Shawn Gilbert, Melissa (Josh) Morris, Danielle (Aaron) Bearden; great-grandchildren, Avery, Nathan, Addison, Gracie, Wesley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Smith; son, Roger Smith, Jr.; parents.
