Luminary Remembrance Service

The Arc of Jackson County invites you to a special luminary remembrance service on Saturday, May 1 at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. Several hundred candles will be placed throughout the gardens at all entrances, features and drives, completely illuminating the entire garden. These candles will be lit as dusk falls and the devotional service will begin at 7 p.m. Devotion and music for the service will be provided by Randy Sharpe of Calvary Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to attend and witness this beautiful transformation of the Memorial Gardens into a warmly glowing tribute to those who cannot be with us.

Rogers named to Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees

Local Economic Development Leader, Goodrich “Dus” Rogers has been named to the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees. Mr. Rogers has an extensive and impressive resume serving Northeast Alabama over the span of his career. Dus most recently has been leading the Business Development efforts at Farmers Telecommunications in Rainsville.

30 minutes with Mayor McCamy

Scottsboro City Mayor Jim McCamy recently expressed his concern over the workforce issues the nation, and Scottsboro, are currently encountering. The mayor was recently at a local restaurant and noticed a modified work schedule posted outside the establishment, informing the customers of their need to close on certain days and at new hours, due to the lack of an optimum number of employees needed to carry out a day’s business serving the public’s needs. Scottsboro also recently held a job fair that did not yield good results as far as people coming in off the street, seeking a place of employment.

When many of you were growing up, there wasn’t a place for you to go if you or someone you knew was suffering from abuse, of any sort. Back then, as my mother can attest to, most of the advocacy was left up to the child themselves, and the cases that actually resulted in the child(ren) being removed from that situation were slim to none.
