When about 100 first graders from Brooks Elementary School in Lauderdale County excitedly stepped off three yellow school buses for an educational program at Joe Wheeler State Park in early May, they probably weren’t thinking about Teddy Roosevelt, but they were about to get an up-close experience with what America’s 26th president called “the wonder-book of nature.”
The City of Scottsboro will hold its municipal election on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Qualifying for the election began Tuesday, June 11 and runs through Tuesday, June 25. If necessary a run-off election will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Archie F. Stewart was a passionate and innovative civil rights leader who served as president of the regional NAACP for over ten years. In 1981, Mayor Roy Owen proclaimed “Archie F. Stewart Day” in Scottsboro.
