Try something unorthodox
As Spring moves on to the summertime of the year, some things change, and some don’t. The one big similarity of Spring to Summer is the all-day heat leaving the water temperature to soar and oxygen to deplete in the water. This factor alone makes summer fishing extremely tough, and trying to overcome this and put together a pattern that catches fish can be really tough, but doing something different can sometimes be a key to success.
It’s spinnerbait time
There’s probably no bait in my tackle box that offers such a wide variety of ways to fish than a spinnerbait. It’s a mainstay in my box of tricks that has survived the test of time and proven it can and is a well-rounded presentation.
Fishing has changed
It’s no secret that bass fishing on just about every lake in the country has changed drastically over the last five years. It’s certainly not easy anymore, as you are forced to be much more versatile, and your investment in becoming a good angler is nearly out of sight from a cost standpoint.
Bladed jigs around grass
Over the many years of lure development, no lure has been as effective around grass as the bladed jig. Now, it has been named many things: chatter baits, vibrating jigs and more. The bottom line is, they have taken over where the rattle bait left off with a natural shad look that moves, vibrates and attracts bites with great results.
Cold water baits
Cold water can be your friend or your enemy as bait selection can be key to having success during the cold spells. Baits I have been using for many years, and God willing for many more, have had success, but things change, and sometimes you must adjust.
