Almost Frogging Time
by Mike Gerry
As the grass mats thicken on Guntersville, one of the first presentations that comes to mind is working a SPRO frog over, around or in the grass. There is no bait like it. People come from all parts of the country to do some frog fishing, as the excitement is unmatched in any type of bass fishing. It really doesn’t matter what type of fishing your use to. Once a largemouth bass explodes through the grass and pulls down a frog, you’re a fan for life.
Summer Decisions
by Mike Gerry
As we progress into the summertime patterns, bass fishing becomes more complex and hence, there are many more decisions you need to make to have successful trips during the heat of the summer. Decisions that you make will generally guide you through the day – it will be good or not so good.
Summer big baits
by Mike Gerry
As we slowly move on with summer, it can be a time of year where size matters. At no time during the fishing year is the size of your bait more important than now. The difference is that most people go with small baits in the summer; however, if you’re wanting to catch big quality bass, fish with big baits like 7-inch swim baits, 3/4 oz. jigs with large trailers that give the jig a bulky look, 3/4 to 1 oz. spinner baits with large willow leaf blades. Defy the norm and work with size to achieve size in your catch.
Retrieve speed
Some things in the heat of the summer just can’t be ignored, and retrieving speed is critical during the summer. One of the most critical things that people do wrong, when they have trouble catching fish, is how quickly you retrieve your bait while fishing!
Go shallow
As we move into the summer, fishing gets tough. The deep water is hot in water temperature, the bass are lethargic, and getting a bite can be tedious work. Sometimes, the answer is not where you might expect, as many times the bass have moved into very shallow water.
