Christmas Charities to take applications

Christmas Charities of Jackson County will begin taking applications for assistance during the holidays during the week of September 27.
Applications will be taken in the Bridgeport area at the Bridgeport Lions Club Building Monday, September 27 through Friday, October 1 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Courthouse entrance cut to one door

In a recent Jackson County Commission meeting the commissioners approved a resolution to amend the current Courthouse Security Plan and close the south entrance of the Jackson County Courthouse. The north entrance will be the only entrance into the courthouse.

Old Timers Festival to be held Saturday

The 11th Annual Old Timers Festival will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Rosalie. The event will be held next to the Rosalie School just off Alabama Highway 71 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Entertainment will include Katrina Barclay, Cloggers, The Durham Family, the Joyful Strings, The Whistler, Erin Berry, 4 in Accord and Stingray.

NACC students to intern at Bellefonte

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has initiated an internship program with Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) for students majoring in Drafting & Design Technology (DDT), according to Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. Students selected for the program will continue their studies at Northeast, but also will perform drafting and design duties at TVA’s Bellefonte Nuclear facility in Jackson County.   “We are optimistic that if the renewal of the construction and subsequent operation of the Bellefonte Nuclear Power Plant occurs as is anticipated that this partnership will be just the beginning of workforce opportunities for our students,” Campbell stated.

Area has abundance of Labor Day weekend festivities

First Monday weekend begins Saturday on the Square in Scottsboro and lasts through Monday. The September trade day is one of the largest of the year.
