Candlelight vigil

A candle light vigil was held last week in honor and support of victims of domestic violence. Vella Thornhill, a domestic violence victim tolled the bell for the 40 Alabamians that lost their lives in 2009 due to domestic violence.

Damaging storms

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado touched down near the town of Section in extreme southern Jackson county around 3:45 AM CDT Monday morning and tracked east-northeast across northern DeKalb county through 4:15 AM CDT.

Road funds expected to return to normal

Jackson County Engineer Philip Widner received notice last week that this year’s allocation from the Alabama Department of Transportation of federal funding to each county, will return to the traditional level.
