City Council approves alcohol licenses, trail paving

Scottsboro City Council members recently held public hearings regarding the issuance of an alcohol license for Kasey Sanders,

doing business as KC’s BBQ, located at the Jackson County Park, 2302 County Park Road and Hemali Patel, doing business as Sunshine Foodmart, located at 4715 S. Broad Street. Both applications were approved.

Council members approved the bid contract with CTS Excavations for the Goose Pond Walking Trail. City Engineer Josh Little recently presented council members with the recommendation and bid tabulations, explaining that CTS was the lowest bidder.

Council members also approved a budget amendment for A/C Units at the Rec-Com and Airport. Yvonne Yokel recently explained to council members that the unit at the Rec-Com is seven years old and to repair would be approximately $6,000 and that a new unit would be around $10,000.

During reports, Mayor Robin Shelton reported that the recent Castin’ n Catchin’ tournament was a great success for the cause.

Council member Keith Smith stated that he began to work in February, 1971 for the City. He stated that he served ten years as police officer, and 26 years as Chief of Police, additionally Smith is on his third term of City Council. He stated that he would retire after this term.
