During the work session Commissioners discussed allowing employees to be off on Good Friday; and discussed the weather policy, allowing employees to be paid if they are sent home due to weather.
Commissioners heard from Sheila Shepherd, current EDA director regarding the WIOA (Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act) Board Realignment. Shepherd explained that career centers in the county and dislocated workers qualify for college and additional training through the WIOA board. The realignment would place Jackson County with 13 other counties. Shepherd stated that there is local funding and the board decides where the training funding goes. However, the Jackson County Commission has to approve the board realignment. Shepherd explained that the board members are appointed through the Governor’s office of Work Force Development. Following the realignment a few other board members, including elected officials will be added to the board.
Commissioners also heard from Commission Chairman Matthew Hodges regarding the Fair Housing Proclamation. Hodges explained that this is a required piece for water grants that the county is in process of utilizing.
