Portion of Beaulieu Fibers, Bridgeport to close

Beaulieu America announced last week a partial closing of its Bridgeport Fibers plant. The plant has been open since 1987 and employs 390 people. The Fabric plant employs another 225 employees.

The Bridgeport Fibers plant extrudes nylon, polyester and polypropylene fibers, provides heat set and cabling for these fibers, and produces nylon pellets for fiber extrusion. The pellet operation of the facility will remain operational.

The company announced that the Beaulieu America strategy requires a short-term reset to its current business model. This coincides with a long-term shift from carpet to hard surfaces that has accelerated faster than most predicted.

The timing of the closures is expected to be completed by March 31, 2017.
