Commissioners were presented with the new voting precinct map at the last Jackson County Commission Meeting held August 5, 2019.

The map detailed where the new voting poll stations will be located after the Commission voted to approve the station changes earlier this year. This item was moved to the next meeting agenda.
County Engineer Jonathan Campbell was present to update the commissioners on the status of road repairs and closures. County Road 61, part of the federal aid resurfacing project for the Pisgah school zone, is awaiting plan review and the school board agreement regarding the areas that are in the school zone, like the parking lots. The county is working to finalize the project for County Road 59 and is at the reimbursement stage. County Road 77 submissions are currently under Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) review and is on track for September 27, 2019. Matheny Bridge deck rehabilitation project has been awarded, and contract work should begin within the next 15 days with only a two-week closure if all goes according to plan. Damage inventory FEMA projects, 11 of them, and the initial submissions for the slides and sinks were entered into the FEMA reimbursement program, and the county is anticipating a three or four month review before reimbursements begin arriving.
Campbell stated, “Part of our Rebuild Alabama law that’s passed includes project submission and prioritization by the end of this month. That’s an August 31st deadline that requires approval from this body. I think there’s still some audit review finalization required. What we’ll likely do is try to create a short list for you all for your selection on local roads.”
Campbell also stated there are some funding gaps for some of the necessary projects, but he feels some of the funds from the Rebuild Alabama Act should cover them.
