Election season is just around the corner. The Primary Election will be March 3, 2020, and the deadline for candidates to qualify to be on the ballot will be 5 p.m. on November 8, 2019.

The federal offices on the primary ballot are President/Vice President; U.S. Senate (1 seat); U.S. House of Representatives (7 seats).
For state, the offices are, Supreme Court - Associate Justice (1 seat); Court of Criminal Appeals (2 seats); Court of Civil Appeals (2 seats); Public Service Commission - President; State Board of Education (4 seats; Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7); Circuit Court Judges (various seats).
There will also be several local offices up for election in the 2020 Primary Election. District Court Judge, currently held by Judge Don Word; Circuit Court Judge, currently held by Judge Jenifer C. Holt; Jackson County Revenue Commissioner, held by Jeff Arnold; Commissioner of District 3, held by Melinda Gilbert; Commissioner of District 4, held by Mike Sisk; Jackson County Board of Education District 3, held by Chad Gorham; Jackson County Board of Education District 4, held by Charles West; Jackson County Board Superintendent held by Kevin Dukes.
The Primary election will be held on March 3, 2020, and the deadline to register to vote will be 14 days before that date. Registrants must be at least 18 years of age and need to come prepared with their driver’s license, physical address and the last four digits of their social security number.
Residents can register to vote at their local Board of Registrars Office, and for Jackson County residents, that office can be found in the Jackson County Courthouse in Scottsboro. Contact the Jackson County Board of Registrars Office at 256-574-9339 or go to www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/registertovote and print out a register form. This can be hand-delivered or mailed to 102 East Laurel Street, Scottsboro, Ala. 35768.
Candidates for the upcoming election may submit a photo and short biography to announce their intent to seek office to editorial
@theclarion.org. Announcements may not be used to promote campaign platform. Only one announcement will be run per week on a first come, first serve basis. No announcements will be run after the qualifying deadline, November 8, 2019.
