Donald Washington, age 55 of Scottsboro, has been arrested by U.S. DEA agents.

   Washington was part of a yearlong investigation led by the DEA and assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, the ATF, Homeland Security, U.S. Marshalls, Morgan County Drug Task Force, Decatur Organized Crime Unit, ALEA, Madison / Morgan County STAT, DeKalb County Drug Task Force, Marshall County Drug Task Force and multiple other state agencies from the West to East.

   According to the indictment filed in the U.S. District Court, Washington, along with eight other defendants are charged with "intentionally and unlawfully conspiring and agreeing with each other and with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute fifty grams or more of methamphetamine and one kilogram or more of a mixture containing detectable amounts of heroin." Washington is also charged with  aiding and abetting by the other and by others to unlawfully distributing fifty grams or more of methamphetamine." According to officials the source of supply was Mexico.

   Washington is currently being held in the Morgan County Detention facility with no bond. He was arrested at his residence on Crawford Road in Scottsboro in the early hours of July 25. If convicted Washington faces a sentence of up to a minimum of ten years.
