The Jackson County Commission met briefly Monday night.

Only three out of five commissioners were present; Danny Rich, Jason Venable and Mike Sisk.
Those three commissioners voted to approve the sponsoring of a Trash Masters Tournament. Venable is hoping this idea of cleaning up litter will be successful.
The event will be held on May 4, 2019. Additional information will be available soon.
Also, during the meeting, it was said the Department of Human Resources (DHR) is requesting to approve and sign a long-term lease agreement on the building they reside in. There have been several motions presented stating different ideas of what the agreement should state. Due to two commissioners being absent, the commission decided to table the motion until the next scheduled meeting.
Mike Sisk, District 4 Commissioner, stated in the last meeting that he has received multiple calls about County Road 8 concerning its safety. The county road is being traveled by many due to the County Road 17 issue. He asked that the road be re-striped and new reflectors to be added. The County Engineer, Jonathan Campbell, was asked to get some information on doing this at the meeting last Monday. He stated at this meeting that the striping looks to be in good condition. He said that replacing the reflectors would be a pretty good idea. The motion was approved to move forward on replacing the reflectors on County Road 8.
Campbell reported that the Public Works crew had removed 90% of the debris from the flooding last month. He also reported that FEMA personnel and Alabama EMA were in Jackson County last week assessing the damage. He said that was the first time FEMA had been on site while this was Alabama’s EMA second. They both did assessments, looked at the numbers and figures along with gathering information from other counties. The information they took will go towards a declaration or not. It may take 3-4 weeks to find out which way it will go.
