James Thomas “Tommy” Joyner, Sr., was born on August 24, 1942 in Stevenson, to the late Minnie E. Joyner and Mose Henry Martin.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Center Star Missionary Baptist Church. He later attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, class of 1961. Tommy was united in marriage to Ann Hutchins, from this union was born, Jamie Joyner. Later, Tommy was united in marriage to Debra Chapman and from this union two sons, Steven and Craig Joyner and daughter, Menyona Joyner were born.
Tommy worked at Revere for many years. He later worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation before becoming disabled. He leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, James Thomas Joyner, Jr., Steven Joyner, Craig Joyner; daughter, Menyona Joyner; grandson, Aris Joyner; brother, Joe (Panilla) Joyner; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; special cousin, Precious “Betty” Stevens.
