When I read I always do so with a highlighter, especially the Bible.

I decided to use some of my highlighted verses today for my column:
Some of them are so fitting in light of the atmosphere today:
I love Proverbs.  Listen to these wise words from proverbs 18:
Verse 2: “Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.”
3. “ When the wicked arrive, contempt, shame and disgrace are sure to follow.”
4 “A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.”
8.  “What dainty morsels rumors are--but they sink deep into one’s heart.”
12. “Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.”
15.  “Intelligent people are always open to new ideas.  In fact, they look for them.”
24.  “There are ‘friends’ who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”
 Chapter 19:
3.  “People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry with the Lord.”
4.  “Wealth makes many friends.  Poverty drives them away.”
8. “To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.”
11. “People with good sense restrain their anger; they earn esteem by overlooking wrongs.”
17.  “If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord --and He will repay you!”
20.  “Get all the advice and instruction you can, and be wise the rest of your life.”
22.  “Loyalty makes a person attractive.  And it is better to be poor than dishonest.”
Chapter 20:
3.  “Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.”  (my motto: Walk away.  Mark them off your list)
19. “A gossip tells secrets, so don’t hang around with someone who talks too much.”
Chapter 21:
13. “Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need.”
23. “If you keep your mouth shut you will stay out of trouble.”
Chapter 22:
4.  “True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor and long life.
Chapter 14:
13.  “Laughter can conceal a heavy heart; when the laughter ends, the grief remains.”
20. “The poor are despised even by their neighbors, while the rich have many ‘friends.’”
30. “A relaxed attitude lengthens life; jealousy rots it away.”
33.  “Wisdom is enshrined in an understanding heart; wisdom is not found among fools.”
34.  “Godliness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”
Chapter 15.
1.” A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger. “
17.  “A bowl of soup with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.”
