Jesus calling
There is a little book I keep beside my chair that’s called, “Jesus Calling.” It was given to me by a friend at a low time in my life. This small book has one-page devotionals that you can quickly read but there is a lot of power packed in each page. I love this one for July 23:

“I am the light of the world. Men crawl through their lives cursing the darkness, but all the while I am shining brightly. I desire each of my followers to be a light bearer. The Holy Spirit who lives in you can shine from your face, making Me visible to people around you. Ask My Spirit to live through you, as you wend your way through this day. Hold my hand in joyful trust, for I never leave your side. The Light of My Presence is shining upon you. Brighten up the world by reflecting who I am. (John 8:12; Matthew 5:14-16; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Exodus 3:14).”
Who could not feel better after reading these words? I said once, “Every time I do a good deed I feel that a little light goes off somewhere, and it is my desire to fill the sky with little lights.” Our deeds, good or bad, do not go unnoticed by the Holy Spirit. Whether we are thanking Him as we go about our daily lives, or we ignore Him and struggle through life without Him. I picture His sad face when He observes some of His children ignoring him. Our lives cannot possibly go well without Him. When you are a faithful believer you become unburdened, for you turn it all over to Him and know He will take care of it. I have read that we spend half our lives worrying about things that never happen. We need to put our trust in Him and have faith that He will take care of us. We have all been drawn to someone who just seems to shine from within, who always has something pleasant to say. They seem completely at ease and know which way they are headed. Then there are those whom we can easily recognize as someone who may never be happy. The scowl on their face says it all; the kind of person who, if you remark, “It’s a beautiful day today,” might say, “Yeah, but it looks like it’s going to rain.” Be happy. Help someone today.
