Scottsboro to resume recycling program Wednesday, 11 September 2019 14:19

The City of Scottsboro’s residential curbside recycling program resumed service beginning Monday, September 9th, with cardboard and plastic products.

In June of 1838 over 5,000 Cherokee were moved down the Tennessee River on flatboats on what is known at the “Trail of Tears” to the deep water port in Waterloo, Ala. where they embarked a steamboat and moved on out west to their government assigned reservation in Oklahoma.

You may see some new faces with the new school year at Scottsboro City Schools. Here are some of the new hires and transfers.

Jason Hass, will be the new principal at Collins Intermediate School, replacing Dale Hancock, and Carrie Ann Myers will be the new principal at Scottsboro Junior High School.
The new Itinerant Drama Teacher for Scottsboro City Schools is Jensie Britt. The position of Itinerant Visual Impairment Teacher was awarded to Monica Cates. Pending certification approval, Joshua Davis will be replacing Chris Hammon as the new AgriScience teacher at Scottsboro High. Sarah Hoge will fill the position of Sixth Grade Teacher at Collins Intermediate, and Ashley Smart is Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and will also be filling the position of Sixth Grade Teacher at Collins.
Hartley Pritchett is the new Itinerate Collaborative Special Education Teacher at Scottsboro City Schools, based at Collins Intermediate.
Kyle Crabtree will be filling in as the Itinerant Physical Education Teacher at Scottsboro City Schools. Lauren Dewitt has taken the position of Itinerant Gifted Education Teacher at Scottsboro City. John Michael Knighton, pending background check, will be an Instructional Assistant for Scottsboro High.
Kari Beth Strickland will be replacing Nicole Anderton as Math Teacher for Scottsboro City. Shay Holder is replacing Lynn Myers as Bus Driver for Scottsboro City Schools, and Jonathan McNutt is replacing Jessica Sisco as Bus Driver for Scottsboro City as well.
Alysha Borum is replacing Amy Stills as the Itinerant Special Education Teacher for Scottsboro City Schools, and Amy Hardin will be replacing Haley Clemons as the Itinerant Special Education Instructional Assistant at Scottsboro City as well. Zachary Perkins is replacing Benny Wright as Physical Education Teacher at Scottsboro Junior High. Barbara Bradford will be replacing Carol Baranowski as custodian at Collins Intermediate.
Scott Hodges, Assistant Principal at Scottsboro High School has transferred to Nelson Elementary School and will be replacing Ken Holder as Principal there. Chasta Breland will be filling the position of Assistant Principal at Scottsboro High School.
Jess Smith is the new Head Baseball Coach and will be replacing Blake Talley. Christy Holland, the former Media Specialist at Caldwell Elementary has transferred to Scottsboro Junior High and will be replacing Jennifer Sanders as Media Specialist.
Nicole Anderton has transferred from Math Teacher at Scottsboro High to Media Specialist at Caldwell Elementary. Jessica Sisco, a bus driver for Scottsboro City Schools has transferred to Records Clerk and will be replacing Mark McGee. Benny Wright, Physical Education Teacher at Scottsboro Junior High is now filling the same position at Caldwell elementary and is replacing Jonathan Haynes.
Maggie Roberson, the ISD Instructional Assistant at Scottsboro Junior High has transferred to Itinerant Instructional Assistant for Scottsboro City Schools and will be replacing Jeremiah Haynes.
Melissa Knowles is the Club Wildcat Lead Teacher at Collins Intermediate School, and the Teacher Assistants for this program are: Amanda Brown; Haylea Cooper; Selena Necklaus; Alexis Evans; Samantha Hood; Heather Pendergrass; Madison Pendergrass; Bailey Lakin Webb; Breanna Welch.
There are also several resignations. Jeremiah Haynes from Instructional Assistant at Collins Intermediate; Blake Talley as History Teacher at Scottsboro High; Pat Vinson as Physical Education Teacher at Nelson Elementary; Jennifer Sanders as Media Specialist at Scottsboro Junior High; Tyler Vann as Instructional Assistant at Collins Intermediate; Amy Stills as Special Education Teacher at Scottsboro High; Carol Baronowski as Custodian at Collins Intermediate; and a leave of absence from Cheryl Thornton as Third Grade Teacher at Caldwell Elementary.
Cheryl Thornton, Third Grade Teacher at Caldwell Elementary and Mark McGee, Records Clerk at Scottsboro City, have retired.
