Food for Thought is a coalition of backpack food programs in Jackson County. The Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, the IMPACT Learning Center and the Jackson County Legislative Delegation are partnering in sponsoring a special event, Food for Thought, a donation drive.

The Fundraiser will be held July 19th at Wal-Mart in Scottsboro to raise funds for children at risk of weekend hunger in Jackson County. The money raised will be distributed to Scottsboro City Schools and Jackson County Schools who have weekend backpack food programs. The children receive a bag of food on Friday or the last day before a holiday that is child-friendly, nutritious, non-perishable and easy to eat. This helps ensure that children will have food over the weekend and return to school on Monday ready to learn. Currently 900 students receive weekend bags of food. Each bag costs about $4 a week.
In Jackson County 1 in 4 children faces food insecurity. Many go home to empty cupboards for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning. The number of children we are able to feed is limited only by the financial support we are able to secure. As a little as $150 will provide weekend food for a school child for an entire school year. One child hid his food so no one else would eat it. If you would like to mail in a donation, send it to the IMPACT Learning Center at 23123 John T. Reid Parkway, Scottsboro, AL 35768.
In addition, Foodland will be collecting financial donations at the registers for Food for Thought from July 15th- August 2nd at all three Jackson County locations.
Everyone is invited to come lend a hand to help hungry children in Jackson County. Volunteers will be in the front entrances of Wal-Mart to collect your donation from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Any amount will help. If you would like to designate your support to a specific program/school please include the program’s name on the check’s memo line. Our goal for the day is $10,000. Help us feed the future of Alabama. Your support can change a child’s life.
