Last week was designated Nurses Week in Scottsboro, and to mark the occasion, Highlands Medical Center hosted an awards ceremony honoring one of their late, elite nurses.

The Angel of the Year Award was created to honor the memory of Registered Nurse, Angel Pritchett, a Highlands ER nurse who passed away suddenly last year. Dr. Lonnie Albin, CEO of Highlands Medical Center and Jean Ann McMurrey, Chief Nursing Officer presented the first ever Angel Award to Nurse Pritchett’s family. Her son, Kodye Abbott, accepted the award on her behalf.
“Mom was the most uplifting person I’ve ever met. If she were here today, honoring another nurse, she’d be cheering the loudest and the first person in line to congratulate them and give them a hug.” Abbott continued, “People always speak well of the deceased, but Mom truly loved her job and the people in her life. This is such an honor to see how she has impacted others’ lives.”
