Scottsboro Board of Education announced at their recent meeting that candidates for superintendent would not be announced as previously scheduled.

The board announced during the meeting that they were going to revise their Superintendent search timeline to slow down.  The meeting was the first with interim Superintendent Tony Ball, since former Superintendent Sandra Spivey’s retirement.
Board President Julie Gentry discussed the revision of the superintendent search. Gentry stated, “We are going to revise our timeline tonight, just because we didn’t want to rush anything. We didn’t feel the need. Some of our applicants also have applied for other positions, so we really need to wait and see if they’re going to be in or out. We have all of our applications at Mr. Livingston and Mr. Eustace’s office and that’s where we will go to view those and we will each choose candidates that we would like to interview. “Gentry stated that the top five candidates would be announced at the August 3 board meeting.
Board members approved personnel items which included the resignation of Matthew Brewer and Kimberly Keller; the transfer of Myka Goggans from Special Education teacher at the Junior High to Itinerant Special Education teacher; and the employment of Anna Benson, Jason Gregory, Kyle Nix, Meghan Troutman and Tammy Rogers as Itinerant Special Education teachers; the employment of Loran Schrader as science teacher; and the employment of Lauren Cooper, Bridget Price, Melissa Rollins and Robin Sutton as Pre-K Auxiliary teachers.
Board member Patty Stewart stated,  “This is something we worked really hard on, even though I don’t believe the money is there to make these hires, I don’t feel like we have a choice at this point. We’re not going to be able to do some of the things we would have liked to have done, as far as capital improvements, because we have to use it to employ these teachers. We’ve worked on it for weeks.”
The Board approved a boys’ and girls’ soccer program for Scottsboro High School beginning the 2017-2018 school year.
Board member Holly Thompson stated, “I think we might be a little ahead of ourselves on this, as far as what we are capable of doing. I’m for getting it going and bringing it to our community.”
The Board also approved the 2017-2018 supplemental positions. These included a varsity football assistant, a new junior high football assistant, a head coach for junior high baseball, a boys’ and girls’ tennis coach and a boys’ and girls’ soccer coach.
