Christa Hastings, a 2015 graduate of Section High School and a 2019 graduate UAH, will be heading to UAB School of Medicine this fall.

Hastings said, “For as long as I’ve been able to remember all I’ve dreamed about being was a doctor. When I was very young, someone I loved very much was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer. I grew up hearing about the health care professionals that impacted my family’s lives. I could never get those stories out of my head. It amazed me that one person could make such a difference.
As I got older, the desire to become a physician only grew. But what grew even more was my faith in God’s plan. I knew wherever He needed me, was where I would be sent. In the last year as I started my application for medical school, I began to pray, “God show me your will for my life. Send me where you need me.” And He has. I’m so excited to announce that I will be attending UAB School of Medicine in the fall. This has been an amazing journey and I think a few people deserve some shoutouts for helping me along the way.
My mom has listened to me explain organic chemistry reactions and biochem pathways to no end; she’s listened to my craziness during finals week and sent me food when she knew I’ve had a long week. And my dad has spent weekends helping me study and has even missed an Alabama football game once or twice because his daughter needed him. And lastly, but certainly not least, I want to thank my God, who’s grace has always been sufficient and more than I could ever deserve. None of this would have been possible without my Heavenly Father’s support and constant love. I can’t wait to be able to serve my God and His people through medicine. As my patients put their faith in me, I will put my faith in God, our ultimate Healer.”
Hastings is the daughter of Christie Hastings and Keith Hastings.
