County Commission approves DHR lease Wednesday, 20 February 2019 20:01

During the recent Jackson County Commission meeting, Commissioners approved the DHR lease agreement, valid until September 30, 2019. The lease was increased from $1.00 per square foot to $3.00 per square foot.

Scottsboro Police Chief Ralph Dawe has released the 2017/2018 Annual Crime Report Comparison.

According to the report, Scottsboro police has had no murders reported since 2016. The report shows an decrease in rapes from 13 in 2017 to 10 in 2018, with no arrests being made. Robberies remained the same with five reported in both years and five arrests being made. Aggravated Assaults increased from nine in 2017 to 12 in 2018, six arrests were made.
Dawe reported that during 2018 burglaries increased to 102 from the 87 reported the previous year. Only 17 arrests were made. Felony thefts increased with 251 compared to the 178 in 2017, 49 arrests were made. Misdemeanor thefts also increased from 360 in 2017 to 476 in 2018, 206 arrests were made.
During 2018, Dawe also reported a decrease in arrests for sex crimes, failure to appear and immigration. Four sex crime arrests, 738 failure to appear arrests, five arrests for identity theft, 11 immigration arrests, 108 domestic violence arrests, 636 drug arrests,  and 100 DUI arrests were reported There were a total of 3,919 criminal crime reports, an increase of almost 800 from 2017, with one less arrest than 2017 at 1,810.  
Officers for the City of Scottsboro responded to 32,369 calls for services, 862 traffic accidents, with no fatalities and 179 injuries. Officers wrote 4,219 citations.
Animal intake at the Scottsboro Jackson County Animal Shelter were reported at 2,114. Of those only 396 animal adoptions were made, a decrease of 196 from 2017.
